ARTIST STATEMENT - NET ART PROJECT

I created this GIF for my Creative Digital Culture module at DkIT where I explored the theme of "Convergence" in Digital Culture through net art and was given the creative freedom to engage with open source technology.The GIF is 800 pixels wide x 800 pixels high.

The theme of Convergence for me is how people communicate in the current digital climate. Teenagers today communicate online often and use the digital tools at their disposal to their benefit.

Sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, neices, and nephews, currently all congregate online to communicate with eachother. This GIF is a snippet of the world of digital culture - accompanied with a sprinkle of glitch art design to top for good measure.

To begin the creative process for this project I took many of my own unique photographs and videos on a Samsung S21 mobile phone and manipulated them in Adobe Photoshop to create glitch effect distortions.These edited images were then brought into Adobe After Effects where the animated GIF was created. The text "Together In Digital Dreams" was created using patorjk.com and animated in After Effects also.

Each image signifies how communication takes place in todays world, whether that is on a laptop, a Playstation, or a mobile phone. The GIF is an art piece where the images are very different from their original form as I seeked to replicate the style of glitch hackers effect.
